Dear Ireland fans and fellow friends,

the Atlantic Ocean of Ireland has always been – and still is today: a place of longing. We came from Germany and have now lived on the Irish seaboard for 20 years. We always and constantly look at the Atlantic. Still the inner voice whispers daily: I want to go to the sea. The sea attracts us, it holds us in its spell, it nourishes us and gives us peace.

Last autumn we started to rebuild and renovate the half-century old “Island View”, a pleasant little house in our direct neighbourhood, in a way that is consciously aware of its building biology. Our aim is to design the house according to our ideas and preferences, perhaps to live in it ourselves later on. In all four rooms and also in the kitchen you can always see the sea, the beautiful Bantry Bay between Sheeps Head and the Beara Peninsula.

The house will be called THE ATLANTIC, it will be an eco-lodge with a maritime feel. It is intended to become a comfortable temporary home for friends and acquaintances, nature lovers and Ireland fans in the coming years. From the ATLANTIC, day trips will take you to the most beautiful and fascinating places in the south of Ireland. One month would not be enough to explore the particularly beautiful landscapes of West Cork and Kerry between Kinsale and Killarney.

When we started the project, we had no idea how the virus would soon turn all our lives upside down. This year, the winter dormancy doesn’t want to end at all. Even though Ireland is in full bloom, even though the days are getting longer and warmer, the streets remain lonely, the guests away, the pubs closed, the hotels empty. Our little hiking tour operator Wanderlust is taking a forced break.

On 20 July 2020, life and travel will finally begin again in Ireland. THE ATLANTIC Eco Lodge will be an ideal place to enjoy a quiet, harmonious and safe time by the sea. Here cocooning is part of the lifestyle and natural life is the norm. We have adapted our previously comfortable schedule to the new location: The house will be ready for future residents from mid-July. We are looking forward to the first guests.

We hope to see you soon in Ireland’s glorious southwest!
